Entry-to-Practice Competencies

Entry-to-practice competencies for Opticianry outline skills and standards that newly graduated opticians would acquire before entering the profession. This document provides an understanding of the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary for competent practice of opticianry in Ontario.

This document provides a tool to assist opticianry educators in the development of programs and curricula that continues to meet the changing demands of modern practice. In the interest of public protection, the College must ensure that individuals applying to use the title of Registered Optician in Ontario are qualified to do so. Entry-to-practice competencies set standards for professional qualification that all opticians in Ontario must meet for their initial registration.
