As we approach the end of the year, the College would like to thank every optician for the dedication and commitment you have shown to the health and well-being of your patients and colleagues. This has been a challenging year and you have demonstrated that you can provide safe and effective care under the most difficult conditions. 

We would also like to take this moment to update you on a few topics and ensure that we provide any assistance you may need to meet your registration or continuing education requirements. 

Renewal Reminder

Planning to practice opticianry in 2021? Log in to the Registrant Portal to complete your registration. Take advantage of the pandemic relief $250 reduction of registration fees and renew your registration by December 31, 2020. For assistance, contact us at registration@collegeofopticians.ca. 

Quality Assurance Reminder

Accredited Continuing Education Requirements are to be reported in the Quality Assurance section of the Registrant Portal by December 31. For more information on how to report and upload your accredited activities online, please visit the Quality Assurance Portal page on our website.

Updated Delegation Standard
 
After receiving feedback from the stakeholders, the Board approved updates to the Standard 10: Delegation. Of interest are guidelines for opticians who work collaboratively with optometrists and are performing pre-testing as part of your responsibilities. 

Provide Feedback on Proposed Changes to the Public Register 

We would like to hear your thoughts on the following proposed by-law amendments relating to the information displayed on the public register:

1) To allow the end date of suspensions and/or other practice restrictions to be displayed. Currently, the register only displays the date of suspension.

2) To allow for a preferred name of the registrant’s choice to be displayed.
