October 2022 News from the College

The College will be at the AOE continuing education event on October 16th and the OOA continuing education event on November 6th. Drop by the booth, say hello and ask us any questions that you might have. 

2022 Board Elections 

Nominations for the 2022 Board Elections have now closed. 

•    In District 4, (Western), Tonya Nahmabin was acclaimed. 
•    In District 6, ( Ontario /Contact Lens Mentor), Rob Vezina was acclaimed. 
•    In District 7, (Central Western), an election will be held on October 14, and run until October 28, at 12:00 pm. The candidates are Samir Modhera and Heena Sharma. 

If you are eligible to vote in District 7, you will receive an email notifying you, login to your member profile to read the candidate profiles, and to cast your vote. 

Professional Portfolios must be completed by December 31

We would like to remind you that you have approximately 3 months left to complete your Professional Portfolio online through your Registrant Portal. There are a number of resources available on our website to assist you. Are you interested in being an Appointed Member at the COO? Apply by November 7 

Appointed Members play an active role in the College by serving on committees. Appointed Members are compensated for time spent on college business and for reasonable expenses incurred. Changes to the experience requirements to qualify as a Contact Lens Mentor 

The board approved updates to the experience requirements for opticians to qualify as contact lens mentors. Under the updated policy, opticians will be required to demonstrate that they have practiced as a registered opticians for at least one year, and that they have completed the minimum number of contact lens fits. New Life Member Policy 

The Board approved a new policy setting out eligibility criteria for opticians to become life members. Click here to see the new policy.
