Call for Appointed Members opens September 28

Are you interested in becoming an Appointed Committee Member at the COO?

The COO is currently accepting applications from Registered Opticians to serve as Professional Appointees. Professional Appointees sit on College committees and make important recommendations and decisions relating to areas such as registration, quality assurance, standards of practice, and investigations.

Serving as a Professional Appointee is a rewarding way to help ensure safe, high-quality vision care for patients in Ontario. If you are interested in applying your knowledge and skill for public protection, consider becoming a Professional Appointee.

Appointments are for a two-year term beginning January 1, 2027, ending December 31, 2028. Compensation, including reimbursement for reasonable expenses, is provided.

What are the Eligibility Requirements for Appointed Committee Members?

Appointed Committee members must be registered and in good standing with the COO and meet the eligibility requirements for Appointees as set out in Article 12.2 of the COO By-laws and the Appointed Committee Member Policy.

As part of the eligibility requirements, candidates must demonstrate the core competencies for committee members established by the COO Board. Candidates will participate in a virtual screening interview to assess these competencies. Visit the website for more information.

To share more information about the Professional Appointee role, the COO will have an information session on Friday, October 2, from 12:00 to 12:45. Click here to register. If you are unable to attend the information session, don’t worry. The session will be recorded and shared on the COO website.
